Autumn Loops Collar – Free Pattern

The Autumn Loops Collar is my first go at designing a knitting pattern and it uses just 1 ball of Rowan Yarn’s recently launched Kidsilk Amore Shimmer, shown here in the shade Chestnut 514.  The pattern is part of the Rowan Ambassadors Amore Online Collection and it can be downloaded for free here.  I hope you like it!  You will need to sign up to become a Row@n member which is also free, giving you access to Rowan’s online community, free patterns and monthly e-Newsletter which always provides a great read!

The Rowan Ambassadors Amore Online Collection features accessory designs that all use just one ball of Kidsilk Amore or Kidsilk Amore Shimmer and are quick to knit – some great projects if you are thinking of trying out this new yarn for yourself or for Christmas knitting!

Kidsilk Amore is a yarn of super soft multi-strand chainette construction comprising of mohair and silk and based on the very popular Kidsilk Haze but in a heavier weight which is ideal for accessories and small projects.  Kidsilk Amore Shimmer gives an added sparkle to projects!

Wool House

Would you like to join me on a visit to the Wool House exhibition at Somerset House in London?

163

Lots of pictures (!) : I wanted to try and capture the true flavour of the exhibition for you : enjoy 🙂

As you may already know, the Campaign for Wool launched the Wool House exhibition as the world’s biggest ever celebration of Wool, exploring interiors, crafts, fashion and all aspects of this wonderful natural fibre.  Wool House offered a window on the way in which wool can inhabit a space, with leading interior designers demonstrating use of wool fibre within their work across individual rooms.  You can find out more about the exhibition and the Campaign on the Campaign for Wool website.

Come and take a peak inside…

A dramatic black and white themed entrance hall greeted us including a life sized crochet bear created by Shauna Richardson.  Aren’t Shauna’s crochetdermy skills amazing!?

Look at this beautiful Hummingbird Wallhanging designed by Alexander McQueen:

The corridor linking each themed room contained this stunning 100 foot wool runner designed by Cristian Zuzunaga:

Every home needs a wool corner like this one, a cosy nook with a feature chair, maybe a table for books and some favourite things to make it a bit special…

Welcome to the Craft Room : a place to meet and enjoy workshops being run by Rowan Yarns, the Sublime design studio and Debbie Bliss, and watch spinning demonstrations.

When we arrived, great fun was to be had with both young and old enjoying the chance to learn to knit and crochet.  We were thrilled to be able to have a go at hand spinning yarn on a drop spindle:

We admired the many beautiful yarns on display and mood boards created by the designers:

This stunning granny squares throw made from Rowan Purelife Renew, designed by Marie Wallin and featured in Rowan’s Purelife Home brochure inspired my daughter to start a little crochet project on the train home (more about this later..)

You can read more about the Rowan Purelife British sheep breeds yarn range and accompanying brochures here.

I instantly recognised examples of Anna Wilkinson’s work; have you read her book Learn to Knit, Love to Knit?

Are you feeling inspired to bring wool into your life and home?

As an ambassador for Rowan Yarns I’m looking forward to sharing my passion for yarn, knitting and crochet with you. I’d love to hear from you via my blog or my Knitandpurlgarden Facebook page  – I hope to hear from you soon!

A Lido Day Out

To celebrate my husband’s birthday yesterday we decided to treat ourselves to a Lido day out.  We’ve known about the Lido for a while now but rarely get a whole day to ourselves (work, children, pets etc.!) so a birthday on a beautiful blue skied February day seemed like the perfect excuse to check it out.  Look at this pretty pink blossom that we passed on the street: Spring is definitely in the air, don’t you think?

057

We were very excited about our day out, having looked at lots of pictures of the Lido on the internet and having been inspired by Kate Rew’s book Wild Swim.  We planned our visit to include the swim and lunch package. You can read about the history of this once abandoned very special Victorian pool if you are interested here.  The Lido is tucked away from view, a hidden gem in the City.

054  021

Doesn’t this water look inviting?

027  038

There were outdoor changing rooms for those who wanted the authentic Lido experience and some lovely natural body washes to use : the Lido runs a strict policy that requires all guest to wash before using the facilities and by ensuring that all swimmers enter the pool squeaky clean, the need for chlorine has been greatly reduced.

Are you ready to take a dip?

053  045

There is something very special and exhilarating about swimming in an outdoor pool or the sea….

Time for a warm up in the outdoor hot tub, then shower and change.  There was a lovely little boudoir room upstairs where you could dry your hair, overlooking the pool:

Next, a much appreciated cappuchino to warm up (!) and a fantastic lunch in the restaurant overlooking the pool:

We savoured every moment and hoped fingers crossed for the chance to return another day soon….
